Monte Vista Grove Homes (MVGH) was founded in 1924 by Mr. James Marwick (of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co.) to provide housing to the ordained servants of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The Gamble family (of Proctor & Gamble) put up some of the seed money to make Mr. Marwick’s vision a reality. Ninety years later, MVGH continues to not only be faithful to its original mission, but has expanded to serve the surrounding community as well.
Today MVGH is known as one of Southern California’s premier, active senior communities. The Independent Living serves qualified Presbyterian retirees such as: missionaries, commissioned lay pastors, certified musicians and certified educators of the Presbyterian Church USA. MVGH also offers Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing care to the community at large regardless of religious affiliation.
MVGH is located on 13.5 beautifully landscaped acres in East Pasadena. Originally designed by the famous architect Myron Hunt, Monte Vista Grove Homes strives to preserve its vibrant history.
On Saturday, October 4th Monte Vista Grove Homes will join with state and local dignitaries, as well as residents, Board members, donors, friends, family and community members, at its Annual Founders’ Day, to celebrate 90 years of faithful, caring service.
